Once you’ve decided to move forward with a cable railing system, you have several options when it comes to the frame (the posts and top rail) of that system. Below are several cable railing systems options with more details on each post type and top rail option to accompany the cables; they are listed from the typically least expensive to most expensive (this can vary by project).

Wood frames are most commonly found on existing railings where cables are replacing the existing wooden pickets, eliminating the need for additional posts and top rail. Typically, these are the least expensive cable railing frames, even if you are starting from scratch. Wood frames usually require more maintenance than their metal counterparts, as they require more frequent painting and staining. We do not install wood frames, but we can install our cables on your existing wood frame or provide cables for you to install on your already built wood frame.

The American Series offers a slim, flat-top profile that complements both traditional and modern architecture. Its horizontal cable infill creates open sightlines and a minimal visual footprint, making it ideal for decks, porches, balconies, and stair runs where you want your view to take center stage. The American Series is stocked in Textured Black and available in other colors by special order. We can install this option as well.

The Chesapeake Series builds on the same robust cable performance as the American Series but adds a wider drink rail top that’s perfect for entertaining. This design gives guests a convenient surface for drinks or snacks while still delivering the open, unobstructed views and modern aesthetic of horizontal cable infill. Like American Series, Chesapeake is stocked in Textured Black and available in other colors by special order. We can install this option as well but do not have carpenters to provide or install a wood or composite cap rail. We can special order a wider cap rail made of aluminum and install it.

We also make custom stainless steel railings that come in a T304 mill finish. Since these are made in-house, there are more cable railing options available: they can be made with or without a kick rail in place of the bottom cable, they can be 36” (minimum) or taller, they can be top-mounted or side-mounted, and they can be made with 1×3 or 1×2 top rail. We also offer custom stainless steel gates. Due to the welding required on-site, we cannot provide our stainless railings for you to install unless you have the capabilities to fabricate metal on-site. Stainless is our longest-lasting, most versatile railing; if you dislike maintenance, this is the railing for you. It can even provide your cable railing system with strength if your home experiences exposure to saltwater on a regular basis.

We are a Feeney® dealer and offer their powder coated aluminum posts and top rail system. Feeney® offers a variety of picket and cable railing system options. These systems can be built with or without a metal kick rail that matches the top rail; the kick rail provides more strength and a solid place for your feet to rest. Feeney® railings can also be made for stairs and can include custom-made gates. In addition, Feeney® offers over a dozen color options for the posts and top rail. We can install these cable railings frames or provide the railing kits for you to install yourself. Like our stainless steel kits, these frames will need very little maintenance after you add them.
